ABOUT ME
Biography
Emily Carrera is a sophomore from Montgomery County, MD studying Elementary Education at the University of Maryland. Her interests include traveling, photography, and digital art. Through her photography, she aspires to capture the beauty of different cultures around the world by visiting communities and learning about various customs that are often overlooked with mainstream tourism. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in education, she plans to obtain her teaching certification in Special Education as well as English for Speakers of Other Languages, as it is one of her biggest goals to spend summers traveling to foreign countries to teach English.
As a College Park Art Scholar, Emily intends to use the Capstone Project to explore her interests further and deepen her understanding of art and photography specifically. She looks forward to participating in the various events and field trips planned for the year, and is excited to gain new perspectives through the opportunity to meet with numerous guest artists. As a current member of En Camino, an organization that provides at-risk youth with mentoring partnerships, Emily is passionate about community service and is excited to find more opportunities to engage with her community in College Park.
